PROJECT/ACTIVITY (i) Find out the longitudinal and latitudina... - Contemporary India
PROJECT/ACTIVITY
(i) Find out the longitudinal and latitudinal extent of your state.
(ii) Collect information about the ‘Silk Route’. Also find out the new developments, which are improving communication routes in the regions of high altitude.
(i) Note: (Since you haven't mentioned your state, here is the extent for Delhi. You can replace it with your state's data):
Latitudinal Extent: 28° 24' N to 28° 53' N
Longitudinal Extent: 76° 50' E to 77° 22' E
(ii) Silk Route:
The Silk Route was an ancient network of trade routes that connected China and the Far East with the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. It was named after the lucrative Chinese silk trade. Besides goods like spices and precious stones, it was also used for the exchange of ideas, culture, and religion.
New Developments in High Altitude Regions:
Atal Tunnel: An all-weather tunnel at Rohtang Pass (Himachal Pradesh) that connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley throughout the year.
Zojila Tunnel: An under-construction tunnel to provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh.
Border Roads Organization (BRO): Constructing high-altitude motorable roads like the one at Umling La Pass (world’s highest).
Fiber Optic Cables: Providing high-speed internet and satellite communication to remote Himalayan regions.
