Three friends went to watch a film that showed the hero be... - Democratic Politics
Three friends went to watch a film that showed the hero becoming Chief Minister for a day and making big changes in the state. Imran said this is what the country needs. Rizwan said this kind of a personal rule without institutions is dangerous. Shankar said all this is a fantasy. No minister can do anything in one day. What would be your reaction to such a film?
My reaction to such a film is as follows:
Agreement with Rizwan: Rizwan is right that personal rule without institutions is dangerous. In a democracy, institutions (like the Legislature and Judiciary) ensure that decisions are not taken based on the whims of an individual. Without these checks and balances, a ruler can become a dictator.
Agreement with Shankar: Shankar is right that it is a fantasy. In reality, any major policy change or law requires a long process involving discussions in the Assembly, approval by various departments, and signatures from the Governor/President. One day is not enough to follow these legal procedures.
Disagreement with Imran: While Imran’s desire for quick action is understandable, bypassing institutions leads to a lack of accountability. Institutions ensure that decisions are well-thought-out and protect the rights of the citizens.
Such a film is purely fictional and unrealistic because, in a democracy, the system is governed by the Constitution and laws, not by the will of a single person.
