Erupt:

  • Volcanoes: To explode and throw out fire and rocks. (Example: The volcano erupted after many years.)

  • Violence/War: To start suddenly. (Example: Riots erupted in the city.)

  • Emotions: To suddenly express a strong feeling. (Example: The audience erupted in laughter.)

Surge:

  • Water/Waves: A sudden powerful forward movement. (Example: A huge surge of water flooded the village.)

  • Electricity: A sudden increase in voltage. (Example: A power surge damaged the television.)

  • Prices/Demand: A sudden increase in amount or degree. (Example: There was a sudden surge in the demand for tamarind seeds.)

2. What are the meanings of the word trace and which of the meanings is closest to the word in the text?

Meanings of Trace:

  1. To find or discover something by investigation or searching.

  2. To copy a drawing by following its lines on a transparent paper.

  3. A very small amount of something.
