Question
For any substance, why does the temperature remain constant during the change of state?
Answer
The temperature remains constant during the change of state because the heat energy supplied is used up in overcoming the forces of attraction between the particles to change their state, rather than increasing the kinetic energy of the particles.
Since this heat is absorbed without showing any rise in temperature, it is called Latent Heat (hidden heat).
