Question

When a carpet is beaten with a stick, dust comes out of it, Explain.

Answer

This happens due to the inertia of rest.

When the carpet is beaten, the fibers of the carpet come into motion, but the dust particles trapped in it tend to remain at rest. As a result, the dust gets separated from the carpet and comes out.
