Summarise the rules for writing of distribution of electrons in various shells for the first eighteen elements.
The rules for writing the distribution of electrons in various shells (Bohr-Bury scheme) are:
Maximum Electrons Formula: The maximum number of electrons present in a shell is given by the formula
2n^2, where 'n' is the orbit number.First shell (K-shell):
2 \times (1)^2 = 2electrons.Second shell (L-shell):
2 \times (2)^2 = 8electrons.Third shell (M-shell):
2 \times (3)^2 = 18electrons.
Outermost Shell Limit: The maximum number of electrons that can be accommodated in the outermost orbit is 8.
Step-wise Filling: Electrons are not accommodated in a given shell unless the inner shells are filled. That is, the shells are filled in a step-wise manner.
