Toto takes a bath by first testing the temperature of the water with his hand. He then steps into the tub, one foot at a time, until he is neck-deep in the water. He rubs himself all over with soap. He learnt to do this by watching the narrator taking a bath.
One day, Toto almost boiled himself alive when he jumped into a large kitchen kettle that was kept on the fire to boil for tea. Finding the water warm, he stayed inside. As the water began to boil, he hopped up and down but didn't come out because it was cold outside. He was eventually rescued by Grandmother.
