If number of electrons in an atom is 8 and number of protons is also 8, then (i) what is the atomic number of the atom? and (ii) what is the charge on the atom?

Answer

(i) The atomic number is equal to the number of protons.
Atomic number = 8

(ii) Since the number of negatively charged electrons (8) is equal to the number of positively charged protons (8), the atom is electrically neutral.
Charge on the atom = 0
